A collection of screen grabs from Game of throne's most recent title sequence. I worked alongside the a52 and elastic modeling team on this epic spot. The idea was that every wooden piece you see could be build by hand. The scale had to feel right and the feel of the carving needed to be grounded in reality. We knew he had to come up with a process which then could be applied to every hero asset. The answer was to use vector brushes in ZBrush and a couple custom brushes using morph targets as a way to aid in the sculpting phase. Once that was done, the rest of the process was straight forward, a bit repetitive but very rewarding at the end. Well worth the effort doing half the work by hand and half with custom vector brushes, it was a fitting balance in aesthetic.
